Overview
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP) was established by a 1946 committee set up by Honourable Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture as part of an effort to build Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. IITKGP opened its doors in August 1951 with 224 students and 42 teachers, which has now grown to 11,500 students and 650 faculty members spread over about 40 academic units.

Dr. Aloke Kumar, Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, received his BTech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering and MTech in Industrial Engineering from IITKGP in 2005.

Dr. Amit Kumar, Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, received his BTech (Hons) in Energy Engineering from IITKGP in 1997.

Dr. Biao Huang, NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair in Control of Oil Sands Processes and Professor in the Dept. of Chemical and Materials Engineering, has collaborated on multiple research projects with colleagues at IITKGP, resulting in the co-authoring of 8 joint publications.

Dr. Rajender Gupta, Professor in the Dept. of Chemical and Materials Engineering, received his BTech (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from IITKGP in 1972.

Dr. Roopesh Syamaladevi, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Science, received his MTech in Post Harvest Engineering from IITKGP in 2006.

Dr. Sanjay Banerjee, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Accounting, Operations, and Information Systems, received his BTech in Aerospace Engineering from IITKGP.

Dr. Vikas Mehrotra, Professor in the Dept. of Finance & Statistical Analysis, received his BTech in Chemical Engineering from IITKGP in 1985.

Dr. A K Jana, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at IITKGP, was a Visiting Professor in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at UAlberta in 2013.

Dr. Arnab Atta, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at IITKGP, was a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at UAlberta from 2010-2012.
